In Portugal it was known as the “priests’ motorcycle”, a noble and prestigious nickname because it was desirable and used by religious members for their travels.
In addition to the prestige of the brand and the performance of this 350, the preference was due to the very feature that put off American customers: the large rear mudguard, nicknamed “bathtub”, but that was very efficient at protecting clothes from wet and dirty roads (inspired by the design of the Vespa and other scooters), and for priests, it allowed them to ride in their robes with less risk of their clothes becoming caught in the wheel, as often happened with conventional motorcycles and bicycles.
