Presented in 1960, with the elegant design of the Italian studio Pininfarina, it quickly stood out for its robustness, reliability and comfort, becoming a reference in several international markets.
The year 1963 marked a particularly important period in the history of the Peugeot 404, consolidating the model and establishing it as one of the great European cars of its time. In Madeira, the Peugeot 404 was equally associated to the development of the regional road network, at a time when mechanical robustness and reliability were essential characteristics for navigating Madeira’s demanding and winding terrain.
This vehicle was purchased new in 1963 by Humberto Pestana at the Peugeot Madeira dealership. In 1968, it passed to António Rodrigues de Sousa, remaining within the same family ever since. After the passing of its owner, the vehicle was inherited by António Manuel de Sousa, who was committed to preserving the family heritage, and respecting its original factory characteristics and lines.
More than a classic vehicle, this Peugeot 404 represents a story of continuity, memory and dedication, over three generations on Madeira Island and keeping alive the legacy of one of the most iconic models in Peugeot’s history.
