The Morris Minor 1000, from 1962, with the licence plate MD-40-28, belongs to Henrique Costa Neves. It was acquired in 1985. It belonged to a lady who worked as an administrator at the Madeira Forestry Services, where the current owner also worked. The previous owner thought the car was too big, so she bought a Mini.
At the time, the colour of the car was blue. It was running but needed restoration, which came to happen by Henrique Costa Neves' own hands throughout the year 1986. He then painted it with the current colour, cream.
The engine was repaired (rectification 0.40) and also the gearbox. The differential was not touched.
In essence, the restoration followed the principle of the originality of the vehicle.
The Morris Minor is an economy car produced by the British brand Morris Motors between 1948 and 1971. It made its debut at the Earls Court Motor Show in London in October 1948. Designed under the leadership of Alec Issigonis, over 1.6 million were manufactured in three series: the MM Series (1948 to 1953), the Series II (1952 to 1956) and the 1000 Series (1956 to 1971).
Initially available as a 2-door saloon and tourer (convertible), the range was extended to include a 4-door saloon from September 1950. There was also a wooden chassis van (the Traveller) from October 1953 and van and pick-up truck variants from May 1953. It was the first British car to sell over a million units and is considered a classic example of automotive design.
Although Morris launched a new model with a similar name and a similar market positioning, the Morris Mini in 1959, the Minor remained in production for more than a decade after that, and in early 2020 its 23-year production run was counted as the twenty-eighth longest-lasting single-generation car in history by Autocar magazine, which called it: "...the main way Britain got back on the roads after the Second World War."
The Minor was designed in 1941. Although the Nuffield Organisation was heavily involved in war work and there was a government ban on civilian car production.
This was the first Morris to use unitary construction and was designed with independent front suspension.
