Jaguar Cars had already achieved great prestige in the 1960s with its racing cars, particularly the C-Type and D-Type models, winners of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The E-Type arose directly out of this racing experience. It was unveiled to the public in March 1961 at the Geneva Motor Show and caused a huge sensation. It is said that even Enzo Ferrari called it “the most beautiful car ever built”.
The E-Type stood out for several reasons:
• A top speed of nearly 240 km/h, extraordinary for the time;
• Independent rear suspension, rare in road cars of that era;
• The long bonnet and elegant lines made it instantly recognisable;
• This particular example is from the 1964 Series 1 FHC.
The most prized model by collectors featured glass-covered headlights and 3.8-litre engines, later upgraded to 4.2 litres.
