VOLVO AMAZON 122S - LG-60-87 (1967)

The Amazon stood out for its pontoon-style body, increased interior space, and, in the 122S version, a more powerful engine with twin carburettors.

• 1956: Prototype presented in Sweden under the name "Amazon."
• 1957: Deliveries began in Sweden with the base model of 60 horsepower.
• 1958: Launch of the 122S, a version with an 85-horsepower engine and twin carburettors, aimed at export markets.
• 1959: In 1959, Volvo became the first manufacturer worldwide to offer front seat belts as standard equipment, supplying them on all Amazon models.
• 1961: Engine updates with 1.780cm³ versions and 75 horsepower for the 121 and 90 horsepower for the 122S, and standard front disc brakes.
• 1964: Disc brakes on all four wheels in all versions.
• 1966: Production of the 4-door model continued until this year, being replaced by the Volvo 144.
• 1970: The last Volvo Amazon was produced on 3 July.

• Engine: Available in different versions, with 1.6 and 1.8 litres and between 60 and 95 horsepower.
• Transmission: Options included 3- or 4-speed manual gearboxes with or without overdrive, and a 3-speed automatic.

• Comfort: More enveloping and comfortable seats, especially in recent versions.
• Sport: The Volvo Amazon, known for its robustness and safety, became a classic and one of Volvo’s most iconic cars in endurance rallies worldwide.
