The objectives of this action were based on the sharing of various processes aimed at promoting quality in European Education Systems. And in this particular the Finnish Education Evaluation Centre evaluates education and produces information that supports educational decision-making policy and contributes to the development of education.
We include the document of this Center prepared especially for this event in which it describes how this quality is promoted at the various levels of education in Finland and which is operational through self-assessment processes leading to improvement.
For example, please note the following passage from one of the speakers:
"The most autonomous teachers in the world:
-No systematic national testing (has never been);
-Principals don't visit the class (ended 1970s);
-No school supervisors (ended 1980s);
-No textbook and study material control (ended 1994);
-No heavy reporting before and after lessons;
-The curriculum promotes the idea to study without textbooks;
-How to evaluate e.g. phenomenon-based learning and other pedagogical models presented in the curriculum?"
The perspectives of other SICI members such as Estonia, Luxembourg and Wales were also shared.
Inspectorates that are an integral part of SICI have participated In the workshop, as well as its President Tommy Lagergren, the Minister of Education of Finland, Li Andersson, and the Director of the Finnish Evaluation Education Center, Harri Peltoniemi, in the inaugural session.
