It was available in SE versions, with 3.4 (210HP) and 3.8 litres (220HP) engines. A high-performance version “S” version was also available, with the same engine capacities but equipped with 3 carburettors and high-performance cylinder head, among other alterations, which enabled it to deliver up to 250HP, for the 3.4 and 265HP for 3.8 litres.
It is worth deducting around 30 HP from the advertised figures.
The XK150 was available with a 4-speed gearbox, with overdrive as standard, while having an automatic 3-speed as an option.
Unlike the previous XK120 and XK140, the XK150 was only available with wire wheels, maintaining the choice of three body styles: Roadster, Coupe and Drophead Coupe. It also lost the wooden interior trim of the DHC and Coupe versions replaced with vinyl, although the overall quality of finish remained relatively high.
Finally, the main characteristic that defines the model, was the introduction of disc brakes on all four wheels, the first car in the world to feature this, benefiting from Jaguar’s experience at Le Mans with the C-Type and D-Type.
The model was ultimately replaced in 1961 by the Jaguar E-Type, following a total production of 9,382 units.
The example on display is a 3.4 DHC, originally sold in July 1959 through HR Owen in London. It was exported to Madeira in the 1970s and purchased by the current owner in the mid-1990s in need of a full restoration. This restoration was completed in 2022, when the car was awarded “Best of Show” at that year’s Madeira Classic Car Revival.
