It was bought new in 1956 on Madeira Island, by his father António Gouveia (Verdinho), a taxi business owner in the Porto Moniz municipality, with the purpose of providing long-distance services around the island. At the time, the brand’s representative imported directly from the country of origin, Germany. The Mercedes brand, known for its robustness and mechanics, was the ideal vehicle for driving on the roads of Madeira. This vehicle was awarded with diplomas and medals by Mercedes for covering many miles without needing any engine repairs.
It is a car that certainly marked the lives of the population in the north of the Island, especially immigrants, healthcare service, shopping in Funchal and leisure, because at the time, cars were virtually non-existent.
